Kristin Houston is a well-rounded musician that educates, composes, and performs.
Ms. Houston, best known as a jazz vocalist, began her formal vocal training through classical voice education, and can sing in multiple genres and styles with vocal agility and strength.
Although she began singing in the musical theater style and continued her training classically, she sings primarily in the jazz and pop genres. She has been a featured performer in a variety of ensembles including jazz combos, jazz big bands, swing bands, and choral ensembles.
Born and raised in Atlanta, Kristin has had the opportunity to work and perform with a variety of musicians of notability around Atlanta at venues such the Velvet Note, Churchill Grounds pop-up locations, Venkman’s, and Ziba's in Grant Park. She has appeared with Tyrone Jackson, Trey Wright, Delbert Felix, and Kevin Bales and also performs as a featured vocalist with the Atlanta Latin Jazz Orchestra led by Rob Opitz.
Ms. Houston earned Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies and Bachelor of Arts in Music Theory at Kennesaw State University, and also acquired her Music Business Certification through the Joel A. Katz Music and Entertainment Business Program. Through the School of Music at KSU, she studied privately with jazz vocalist, Karla Harris, and jazz pianist, Tyrone Jackson. Along with her undergraduate studies, she has been mentored by world-renowned musicians such as Carmen Bradford, Marion Cowings, Steve Dancz, and Audrey Shakir.
In addition to her work as a freelance vocalist, Kristin is an instructor at Meta Music Education where she teaches voice, piano, ukulele, songwriting, and music theory.
Kristin is also a freelance composer for film and video games and has created original music and sound effects for a variety of genres of media. In early 2016, Kristin and her colleague S. Marielle Reed were awarded Runner Up for Best Original Score at the Game Jam Competition for their compositions created for Gravichi. In summer 2016, Kristin worked with Chaotic Good Studios to compose music and create sound effects for a video game in production. Upon attending her second Game Jam Competition, she created the original score for five different games, and was on the production team that won Overall “Best In Jam” for their augmented reality game, Color Attack.
In late Fall 2019, Kristin moved to New York City to continue her musical endeavors in the big apple.
Currently, she is residing in New York City and is planning on recording her debut album while continuing her performing and teaching endeavors and enjoys traveling whenever and wherever her journey takes her.
